TYPES OF CARE

Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) are licensed
by the Department of Social Services. They provide assistance with meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, social events,
transportation, medical appointments, daily activities, and medication dispensing. Some facilities offer specialized care with Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, Diabetes, Respite, Wound Care, Hospice and Bed Bound patients. These care facilities range in size from six resident homes to personal apartment communities of over 100 units.

Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) are licensed by the Department of Health Services and can provide a higher level of care than a RCFE would be able too. SNF's have licensed nurses staffed around the clock, as well as Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Medical Doctors available as needed.

Assisted Living Facilities provide 24-hour care to high functioning residents requiring less care such as medication management, and contain 100 bedrooms or more.

Hospice Care is provided by a team-oriented group of specially trained professionals, volunteers and family members. It is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. Hospice staff and volunteers offer a specialized knowledge of medical care, including pain management. Hospice care is provided in the patient's home, family member's home and in nursing homes. Inpatient hospice facilities are sometimes available to assist with caregiving.

Respite Care is the temporary residential care for a patient with the intention of providing a break for the primary caregivers. It may be given in a hospice or alternatively as organized holidays for patients. Respite Care is most often given for disabled or terminally ill patients who are normally cared for at home by other family members.
